Q: What does “Certified Organic”mean?
A: Our organic crops are grown under strict USDA guidelines overseen by Texas Department of Agriculture inspectors. Because we control every aspect of the production process, literally from seed to package, we are uniquely positioned to meet the demanding standards required by organic consumers. RiceTec has been producing and selling organic products since 1990 and is one of the largest producers of branded organic rice.
Q: Are RiceSelect products kosher?
A: Most RiceSelect products are certified kosher by Star-K or Star-D. This is one more inspection process, and a confirmation of the high quality of ingredients that are used in our products.
Q: Are RiceSelect products made with GMO ingredients?
A: All RiceSelect products are produced from non-GMO proprietary seed under contract in the United States. This complete control through the production process allows us to ensure that our products will not be co-mingled with other varieties that may have GMO traits.
Q: What does “100% Natural” mean?
A: All of the ingredients used in our products are 100% natural, meaning there are no artificial flavors or preservatives.
Q: How does Kasmati differ from Jasmati and Texmati?
A: While all three are aromatic varieties, cooked grains vary in both taste and appearance. Cooked Texmati grains are not as long and thin as Kasmati grains, which elongate to about double the uncooked length. Kasmati generally contains higher levels of the naturally occurring aroma and flavor compound found in Texmati. Jasmati is a softer, moister grain and does not elongate as much as Kasmati.
Q: What steps does RiceSelect take to help protect the environment?
A: RiceSelect only use cartons made with 100% recycled newsprint and corrugated cases consisting of recycled board. Our plastic jars carry the highest recyclable rating, making them universally acceptable at all plastic recycling centers. However, many of our customers reuse the jars as convenient storage containers.
Why do they love it?
“Getting the maximum amount of flavor into every bite is paramount when you’re trying to eat sensibly….Buying better quality brands can be more expensive, but since you’re using such small quantities, it’s well worth it. ….Life’s too short for tasteless rice. RiceSelect makes many types that are robust in flavor: Texmati (toothy and mild), Kasmati (slightly fragrant), and Jasmati (almost floral). Try various types and find a few you like.” -Weight Watchers.com, 2003
“Reach for arborio rice when you want to make a real risotto. Long grain white rice just doesn’t have the same starchy qualities as arborio’s short, fat, pearly kernels. Many brands are imported from Italy, but I like RiceSelect’s risotto rice, grown here.” -USA Weekend
“Brown rice isn’t your only nutritionally superior alternative to the refined white variety. There’s a world of whole-grain blends that will introduce new flavors, colors, and textures to your dinner menu. Start off with…fiber-rich options [like] Royal Blend Texmati Brown & Red.” -Natural Health
“The Right Rice: Aromatic rice—wild pecan, basmati, or Texmati—adds a nutty accent to Asian or middle-eastern dishes.” -Family Circle
