everything you ever wanted to know about popchips, but your mouth was too full to ask
Q: How do you pop a chip?
A: popping is how we turn our all-natural ingredients into a tastier, surprisingly healthier chip. we start with wholesome potatoes, add a little heat and pressure, and pop! it’s a chip. in fact, making popchips is almost as much fun as eating them. (we said almost.)
Q: Don't chips need a lot of fat to taste really good?
A: you’d think. but we’re able to pop up the flavor without any oil in the popping process. then we use a bit of all-natural safflower, sunflower and/or canola oil when we season them. so popchips have all the flavor, and less than half the fat of fried potato chips. which means you won’t have to wipe your greasy chip hand on your jeans.
Q: What kind of oil do you use?
A: well, we don’t use any oil in the popping process. we only use a bit of non-hydrogenated, non-gmo sunflower, safflower and/or canola oil when we season the chips.
Q: Do you use any preservatives, artificial flavors, colors or ingredients like msg?
A: nope. popchips have no preservatives, no fake flavors and no fake colors. every last chip is totally natural.
Q: How long do popchips stay fresh?
A: because there’s so little oil, they’ll stay fresh for more than 12 months in an unopened bag. to anyone that has the self-restraint to let popchips sit in their cupboard that long to prove it, we commend you. remember, though, that they have no preservatives, so get a good chip clip after opening the bag. or better yet, just eat them all at once.
Q: Are popchips gluten free?
A: our popped chips are not made with any gluten ingredients and, as of august 2011, we’re happy to say that popchips have been officially certified by the gluten-free certification organization (http://www.gluten.net/); a program of the gluten intolerance group®, also known as gig®. look for the gf symbol on popchips’ bags in stores soon! we’re in the process of changing over our packaging to include this certification so there’s a chance you’ll find bags that do not have the symbol printed on the bag — but if they have a “best by” date of august 2012 or later, they are definitely gluten—free. snack on.
Q: Are popchips vegan?
A: our original and sea salt & vinegar popchips are vegan. and all the rest of our flavors are vegetarian.
Q: Are popchips kosher?
A: yes, all popchips are kosher certified by kof—k kosher supervision. our barbeque and sour cream & onion are kosher designated “dairy”. all other flavors are non—dairy and kosher designated “parve.”
Q: Are popchips non-GMO?
A: yes popchips are non-GMO.
Q: Do popchips have soy in them?
A: nope, there is no soy in popchips.

we, the snackers of the world, raising our right hands out of the chip bag, do solemnly pledge to engage in more recreational eating; to double-dip into the onion dip as necessary; to throw more popcorn in the air to catch in our mouths; and to spoil our dinners on a regular basis.
we hold these truths to be self-evident:
- snacking is good and should be encouraged.
- there are few woes a snack won’t cure. Or at least make better.
- good eating should occasionally be no more difficult than opening a bag.
- a snack can do without fat content, but it can never do without flavor content.
- if it doesn’t taste good, it isn’t a snack.
- you're allowed to eat the whole bag
You’ve likely noticed a new phenomenon in the snack food aisle: the appearance of “better-for-you” (BFY) snacks. BFY snacks include light, baked, natural and organic varieties of potato chips and other snacks like soy crisps that consumers would likely perceive as “healthier” or “better-for-you.” And given that Americans eat four or more snacks a day (more that 6.5 million pounds annually) and that salty snacks account for over half of total snack sales, we shouldn’t be surprised to see healthier eating trends making their way to the snack food aisle. In fact, a recent study reports that 35 percent of consumers choose at least one healthy snack every day.
Eliminating trans-fats is only a start
Artery-clogging trans fats seem to capture most of the current headlines about healthier eating. And as trans fats have become the new fall guy for bad nutrition, the narrow focus is drawing attention away from other nutritional issues that need to be considered as part of the battle against heart disease, high cholesterol and other health problems. In some cases, trans fats are just being replaced by other unhealthful oils, which can contribute to heart disease and other health issues. in addition to looking for the “trans fat-free” message, consumers looking for a healthier diet need to look at the nutrition facts panel on the back of the package and focus on total fat levels, saturated fat, calories and cholesterol levels.
popchips: all the flavor. Where’s the fat?
Since we use a lot less oil to make popchips (and no oil in the popping process), popchips have all the flavor and less than half the fat of fried chips. That means you’ll never again have to eat a chip that tastes like cardboard. And you’ll never again have to wipe your greasy chip hand on your jeans. And because popchips are popped with heat and pressure, they are crispy and light and offer a lot more chips per serving. popchips has 20 plus chips per 1oz serving, compared to 15 chips found in a traditional bag of chips.
Great taste, all-natural, less fat, fewer calories and more chips per serving… When comparing popchips with other brands, the results speak for themselves.
