More Than a Wrapper
Through their chocolate products, Endangered Species seeks to spread environmental awareness and ignite compassion for all life on our planet. They do this in several ways:Ethical Trade
Endangered Species Chocolate is 100% Ethically Traded. Endangered Species ensures its growers have humane working conditions and a fair price for their cacao. They buy cacao from small family-owned properties, helping sustain the habitats and communities in which they exist. Their cacao is only grown in the natural shade of rich, diverse forests.
Core Value
Endangered Species’ core value is “Reverence for Life,” a philosophy drawn from renowned humanitarian Albert Schweitzer, which manifests itself in the triad: endangered species recovery, habitat conservation and compassion for fellow humans. Endangered Species believes all life is precious and deserves respect, kindness and care.
More Than A Label
The exquisite chocolate and colorful wrappers serve not only to increase awareness of species currently listed as threatened or endangered on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s Endangered Species List, but to inspire proactive conservation for animals confronting universal struggles such as habitat encroachment, poaching, and pollution. Their products aim to honor all flora and fauna that share this planet. All are invaluable…and sadly, all are vulnerable.
Recycling and Reusing
As part of its corporate mission, Endangered Species continually researches and implements more ways to reduce its carbon footprint. Their production facility is LEED® registered by the U.S. Green Building Rating Council and the company is pursuing LEED certification. They recycle in their corporate offices and shipping rooms—their furniture is even made of recycled materials. They use a pallet company that uses recycled pallets, and consolidate heavy freight shipments to cut down on fuel consumption. The chocolate bar wrappers are even printed on recycled paper and use water based ink.

Who thought that chocolate would be healthy?
There are constant studies being done all over the world that say just that.
FOR THE BODY
- Chocolate contains antioxidants known as flavonoids which help protect against free radicals that cause cell and tissue damage.
- Chocolate contains beneficial vitamins and minerals, including copper, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus. Contrary to popular belief, chocolate contains minimal caffeine – a fraction of that in a cup of coffee.
- 70% cocoa or higher dark chocolate has a low glycemic index, meaning a smaller fluctuation in blood glucose and insulin levels than with other sweet foods. Be sure to read labels for other added sugars.
- Endangered Species Chocolate is all-natural, meaning it contains no additives like chemical preservatives or artificial coloring and flavoring. Our organic-certified products are made using ingredients with no pesticides, growth hormones or other chemicals, maximizing the benefits of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids.
FOR THE HEART
- Stearic acid found in cocoa butter has a neutral affect on cholesterol. A portion of chocolate’s fat also comes from oleic acid, a heart-healthy, monounsaturated fat.
- The antioxidants found in dark chocolate can inhibit plaque formation in the arteries and improve the flexibility of blood vessels.
- The darker and purer the chocolate, the more powerful the antioxidants. 70% cocoa or higher dark chocolate contains more antioxidant power than green tea, red wine or blueberries. Endangered Species Chocolate has many dark chocolate selections with 70-88% cocoa content, some containing other heart-friendly foods like berries and nuts.
FOR THE SOUL
- Eating chocolate releases endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” chemical.
- Chocolate is known as an antidepressant and an aphrodisiac. It contains a phenylethylamine, which can cause feelings similar to being “in love.”
- Our own health can be connected to our compassion and generosity toward others. Feel good about indulging in Endangered Species Chocolate knowing that it helps support sustainable forest farming practices and gives back to conservation organizations.
