Biokleen’s “Reasons Why”
Q: How do traditional cleaning products affect the environment?
A: Every time toxic cleaners are used (whether they are sprayed, dumped, poured, laundered, rinsed, or washed), the hazardous effects on our environment are astounding. Six billion pounds of chemicals are dumped into the environment every year, and cancer, autism, birth defects, skin and respiratory sensitivities, and asthma are on the rise, without an adequate explanation why.
Q: Who’s at risk from these chemicals?
A: Everyone, but two particular groups. First, children and pets are especially susceptible to the negative effects of fumes and residues left behind from toxic cleaning products. Minimizing exposure to these toxins is an important part of keeping children healthy. Second, workers and those who use cleaning chemicals on a daily basis have increased risk; their employers might face safety and liability issues.
Q: What does cleaning with Biokleen products mean and why is it important?
A: When Biokleen products replace mainstream cleaners in your home, you eliminate risks to your families health, and our environment posed by chemicals in those mainstream products. Biokleen products are just as effective and affordable as conventional cleaners, leaving you no reason not to switch.

Biokleen celebrates 20th Anniversary
One of the nation’s first natural cleaning supply companies, Biokleen is celebrating its 20th anniversary during Earth Month in April and throughout 2009 by contributing a total of $35,000 to environmental and youth athletic sponsorships in 9 U.S. states ranging from Oregon to Massachusetts.
“Our concern for the well-being of the environment and our friends, family and customers is what drives our business every day,” said Cindy Rimer, VP of Sales and Marketing for Biokleen and the second generation of Rimers to run the company. “This is a great opportunity for us to give back to some of our favorite causes, and further the values we have lived as a company for the past twenty years.”
Biokleen’s sponsorship campaign will support eight environmental causes for Earth Month and beyond. Contributions will benefit both Seattle Earth Corp and Keep Austin Beautiful’s city-wide clean-ups, the Chicago Wetlands restoration effort, Boston Earth Works’ tree planting initiative, Cincinnati Earth Coalition’s Earth Day celebration, Keep Atlanta Beautiful’s sustainable science competition and Vancouver Urban Forestry’s April tree planting event in Washington State.
In addition, Biokleen plans to donate a portion of proceeds earned during Earth Month to the California Earth Share’s statewide environmental awareness program.
As part of an ongoing effort to encourage good health, the company is also sponsoring soccer clubs and events in Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado, Texas, Chicago and Massachusetts throughout 2009.
“We got involved with causes throughout the country so we could support as many communities and people as possible,” said Rimer. “As a green company, it is important that we encourage others to live a healthy lifestyle and take the small steps they can to make a difference.”
A regular supporter of environment-related causes, Biokleen lives true to the green commitment it was founded on in 1989. All products remain non-toxic and biodegradable, and are developed in partnership with Environmental Protection Agency’s Design for the Environment Program.
